Monthly Tech Tips: AI

Artificial intelligence (AI) is any computer program that can do tasks that typically require human expertise or skill. AI can be used to power the voice assistants on our phones, the posts we scroll through on social media, the ads we see online and so much more.

It's natural for youth to be curious about the latest popular AI programs. As these tools become more widespread, it's important to talk with kids about responsible and appropriate tech use. These resources from Common Sense Media can help your family explore and learn about AI together.

Spring Into Reading!

Over conference week, March 18-21, our elementary and middle schools will celebrate our third annual “Spring Into Reading” Literacy Celebration! Every school will have literacy activities all week long including: buddy class reading, cozy reading, bookmark making contests, author visits and community guest readers. Check out the amazing authors visiting our schools this spring in partnership with Book Passage, Copperfields and the San Rafael Public Library.

We encourage you to ask your child to share their favorite book(s) with you and come visit your school library during conference week to check out books to share at home!

Immigration Support and Resources

We recognize the ongoing fear, anxiety and uncertainty among our student and family immigrant community. Our previous message describes our commitment to fostering inclusive and equitable environments where all students, staff and families feel valued, safe and supported. The message also includes support and resources; below are some upcoming events that we want to highlight:

Recording of Session on Parenting to Support Our Teens

Let's Talk recently hosted a discussion on exploring practical and empowering ways for parents to support their teens as they navigate the challenges of adolescence by building strong, open lines of communication, fostering emotional resilience and encouraging self-discovery. If you missed the event or would like to revisit some of the key takeaways, you can find it linked here or on the Let's Talk website

Eyes Up Marin – Check Your Speed

Speed kills! The difference between life and death in a pedestrian collision can be the vehicle's speed. A pedestrian struck by a car traveling 20 mph has a 95% chance of survival; a pedestrian struck by a car traveling 40 mph has a 15% chance of surviving the collision (American Automobile Association). That is why school zones have speed limits of 25 mph. Obey the law. Save a life.
